Cold Wallet

Quick definition

A wallet kept offline — usually a hardware device — for maximum security.

A cold wallet stores your keys completely offline, typically on a dedicated hardware device. Because the keys never touch the internet, remote hackers can't reach them.

It's the standard choice for larger, long-term holdings. The trade-offs are a small purchase cost and slightly less convenience than an app. Pair it with an offline seed-phrase backup and you have the gold standard of self-custody.
